AS THE STARS FALL
von Monirah Hashemi
Performance - Deutschland-Premiere
“I am an actress, director and playwright from Afghanistan. My work takes its cue from what is silenced: forbidden gestures, interrupted stories, bodies that are controlled or erased.” Monirah Hashemi
As the Stars Fall is a performance about survival, embodied memory and the struggle to reclaim the right to one's own story.
Moving between an adult and a child, the performance approaches memory not as a linear reconstruction of the past, but as something fragmented, physical and continuously present. Childhood, violence, resistance and survival coexist across different layers of time, as the body becomes an archive for experiences that language has been unable, or forbidden to articulate.
Through storytelling, movement, ritual, repetition and sound, As the Stars Fall examines the relationship between testimony and embodiment: what does it mean to carry a memory in the body, and what changes when an experience forced into secrecy is brought into a public space?
The audience is positioned not simply as spectator, but as witness. In this intimate encounter, theatre becomes a space in which the boundaries between the personal and the political, memory and the present, silence and narration begin to shift. Rather than seeking resolution, the work asks what it means to make an experience visible and whether the act of telling can itself become a form of resistance.
